Publisher's summary

The first in a new in-depth nonfiction series examining the devastating terrorist attacks that changed the course of history from #1 New York Times bestselling author Jack Carr and Pulitzer Prize finalist James M. Scott, beginning with the 1983 Marine barracks bombing in Beirut.

1983: the United States Marine Corps experiences its greatest single-day loss of life since the Battle of Iwo Jima when a truck packed with explosives crashes into their headquarters and barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. This horrifying terrorist attack, which killed 241 servicemen, continues to influence US foreign policy and haunts the Marine Corps to this day.

Now, the full story is revealed as never before by Jack Carr and historian and Pulitzer Prize finalist James M. Scott. Based on comprehensive interviews with survivors, extensive military records, as well as personal letters, diaries, and photographs, this is the authoritative account of the deadly attack.

EXCELLENT!!!!

This is Jack Carr’s first non-fiction and I pray it isn’t the last. The story is captivating, the lessons are meaningful and relevant, the writing quality is (as always) top notch. This was excellent!

10/10, highly recommend.

All the facts around this tragedy.

I was in the Marines at this time. I have very strong feelings and opinions about this subject. This book laid out the facts. It brought me to tears and rage at times. Thank you for writing this.

Excellent book!

I’m a little too young to remember or have been taught about 1983 Lebanon. This book helped me understand it in a deeply meaningful way. It’s the best book I’ve listened to in a while. 10/10

The Peace that proved Elusive and the Heroes who gave all

The authors bring these events not just as a history, but as in a real and tangible inspection. They allow us deep glimpses into so many of their lives and of their loved ones lives, that one would feel if they were your own family. Remembering, saying goodbye, but yet allways having them near and dear in our hearts.
Indeed Semper Fidelis

An important forgotten history

This book thoroughly covers the important history of what since probably consider a minor foreign policy failure, though the book notes that event as the foretaste of worse to come. At an infantry Marine, sooner of this should be taught in boot camp, where, as of now, details are lacking. The loss of so many had been tragically forgotten and so have its lessons learned in the blood of good Americans.

Great Book, Helped me learn more about my dad’s life.

I loved the book, I hope Jack Carr does more non-fiction case studies like this one. My dad was in Beirut, this helped me understand the situation much better than any one source/website could have.
