Geschichte
Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly.

Overtly sexual
Rezensiert am: 08.01.2023
Found it hard to pay attention because of the monotonous, slow, albeit pleasant voice of the narrator. Hated most of the content. Her breasts breasted boobily down the stairs, if you know, you know. The story wasn't gripping, the plot really boring, hardly anybody was a proper character and the whole thing was overtly sexual in places it didn't have to be. Fetishizing for the sake of it does not a good story make...

Geschichte
Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

Scaredy-pants-approved

I like the length of the story and how uncomfortable it made me feel. It isn't scary, just kinda interesting. Loved the performances. The ending is a bit anti-climactic, but well-rounded. I hated, however, the descriptions of the female characters. Every single pair of breasts was described in the most detailed, disgusting way ever. Literally why. This was made all the worse by the fact that the main character - a woman - made most of these observations herself. Ew? I expected more from a female author. Good way to kill a few suspenseful hours none the less.
