Geschichte
On the night before he was to turn forty, Rich Roll experienced a chilling glimpse of his future. Nearly fifty pounds overweight and unable to climb the stairs without stopping, he could see where his current sedentary life was taking him—and he woke up. Plunging into a new routine that prioritized a plant-based lifestyle and daily training, Rich morphed—in a matter of mere months—from out of shape, mid-life couch potato to endurance machine.

This is a good book, that I really enjoyed listening to. The story is gripping, and mostly well told.
that being said, there's a couple of points I'm not sure I liked.
- I came for a guide/self help book based on a personal story, but it is much more the other way around. Much of the book describes the personal story, with some guidance packed in and an extra hour or so packed at the end.
- The guidance is a bit brute forced (eat vegan, set great goals with daily steps). There are better books on those subjects out there.
- There is slightly too much of Rich blowing his own trumpet. The story and achievements are great, but probably had a greater foundation in fitness/writing training etc.

Geschichte
The Brave Athlete solves the 13 most common mental conundrums athletes face in their everyday training and in races. You don't have one brain - you have three; your ancient Chimp brain that keeps you alive, your modern Professor brain that navigates the civilized world, and your Computer brain that accesses your memories and runs your habits (good and bad). They fight for control all the time and that's when bad things happen. What if you could stop the thoughts and feelings you don't want? You can.

really good book, with quite a few takeaways. special praise dir the accompanying pdf.
slight dislikes:
I assume that the crass language was done on purpose, for me it was slightly over the top.
for a non-native speaker, the switch from Simon's reading to Lesley's reading was not super easy, her Scottish accent always took a couple of sentences to get used to

Geschichte
In the New York Times bestseller Brain Rules, Dr. John Medina, a molecular biologist, shares his lifelong interest in how the brain sciences might influence the way we teach our children and the way we work. In each chapter, he describes a brain rule - what scientists know for sure about how our brains work - and then offers transformative ideas for our daily lives. Medina’s fascinating stories and infectious sense of humor breathe life into brain science.

the book presents 'brain rules' (how our brains learn) in a clear and interesting fashion. interesting if you work in education, support decision-making or are a parent.
I do think it would be slightly better with a professional reader/narrator, but Medina does a good job on his own book.

Geschichte
2012 marks the 60th anniversary of the publication of C. S. Lewis’s classic, Mere Christianity. Having sold over half a million copies in the UK alone, his overview of Christianity has been imitated many times, but never outdone. Mere Christianity brings together Lewis’s legendary broadcasts from the war years; talks in which he set out simply to ‘"explain and defend the belief that has been common to nearly all Christians at all times."

Well deserved classic

The book is full of wisdom, but I'm pretty sure that I need to relisten parts or even the entire book to really grasp it. I count that as a plus though.

Geschichte
John Eldredge calls men back to a simple and reassuring truth: God is our father. In life's trials and triumphs, God is initiating boys and men through the stages of manhood from beloved son to cowboy to warrior to lover to king to sage. Fathered by God maps out the path of manhood - not more rules, not another list of principles, not formulas, but a sure path men have followed for centuries before us.

I liked it. writing had a light, sometimes tongue-in-cheeck tone. ideas were presented in a easily accessible format. the only problem I had was that some comments were too black and white ('group brainstorming doesn't work' for instance, I think the authors are correct in this context, but believe it is still a good tool in other context. I loved Dan Bittner's reading, he's a good fit, and did an excellent job.

Geschichte
The guru to the gurus at last shares his knowledge with the rest of us. Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman's seminal studies in behavioral psychology, behavioral economics, and happiness studies have influenced numerous other authors, including Steven Pinker and Malcolm Gladwell. In Thinking, Fast and Slow, Kahneman at last offers his own, first book for the general public. It is a lucid and enlightening summary of his life's work. It will change the way you think about thinking. Two systems drive the way we think and make choices, Kahneman explains....

Long 'read', but worth it
Rezensiert am: 21.10.2019
Daniel Kahneman has managed to gather extreme amounts of data on the difference between expected rational decisions and the behaviour people show. The examples are described so vividly that they are easily imageable. It is a long read, but I found it worthful. Patrick Egan's voice is fairly easy to listen to, although I would have liked it to be a bit more lively (maybe a tad faster)

Based on decades of practice and research, best-selling authors Weisbord and Janoff have come to the conclusion that most people lead meetings incorrectly. They, instead, propose 10 contrarian principles that actually get things done.

this book have me a lot of valuable insights, and I intend to try out multiple of the described techniques. The audiobook was a bit too slow-paced, but I'm not sure if that's due to the writing or the reading.
