Story
In this follow-up to his best-selling The 80/20 Principle, the power law that helped hundreds of thousands achieve more by doing less, Richard Koch puts science to work, applying 92 other natural laws to promote the "science of success" within the ever-changing world of business. What does Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection prove about developing a niche product line? How can Isaac Newton's laws of motion and gravity help in a crowded marketplace?

I haven't yet finished half the book, but can already say that this is by far one of the best audible books that I've ever come across. The way the author uses metaphors (cardinal laws of science) to provide insights on how economies and businesses work, is simply next level. I'm so glad that I picked this one. It's simply a MUST READ/LISTEN for chief executives and business owners alike.

informative... great in some parts, though not quite what I expected
Reviewed: 13-07-24
To begin with, the book is a great read (listen) because of many practical tips and tools that it provides. having said that, I was expecting more details about food for various Dosha types, elaboration of Viruddhahar etc.
but no complaints still, the author surely had a very noble intent behind writing this book- that of making the world healthy, one person at a time.

Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Mainstream science - as well as religious and cultural institutions - has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man's possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman's fertility and fidelity. But this narrative is collapsing....

This is truly one of the best written books ever, taking stock of human sexual evolution and how Sex played a major role (apart from passing down the genes) into making us what we are. Beautifully explains the science behind how men and women feel about the subject. Awesome content and superlative narration.

Eating is an indispensable human activity. As a result, whether we realize it or not, the drive to obtain food has been a major catalyst across all of history, from prehistoric times to the present. Epicure Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin said it best: "Gastronomy governs the whole life of man."

The book not only describes the culinary journey of mankind globally, over centuries, but it also provides nice tid bits and flavours of history of mankind itself. What I liked the most about the book was how it connected major events like industrialisation, pandemic, wars etc to changes in our dietary habits. Kudos to the author.
Narration was outstanding, too...

Oh my God, what a great book. evidently a lot of research has gone in writing this piece. Speaks volumes about how the world that we live in came into shape as we know it. It's a must must read (or listen, in this case).
Apart from the exciting stories about how geographies influenced cultures, and vice versa in some cases, the best part about this book is that it doesn't have an ounce of fluff. Every single word is well in place, and not even one extra word has been used. Truly remarkable effort.
Congratulations to the author!

it's overall a good listen, but when I picked up this title, I somehow thought it'll impart some practical applications like how to deal with which personality type, triggers for certain kind of behaviours etc. This title, though nice, has no such practical applications.
Yet, if someone wants to understand the personality types and the reasons behind the way one behaves, s/he can listen to this for some quality insights

As the author rightly pointed towards the end of the lecture... It's a journey!! Takes you back ages, literally- Medieval Times, Crusades, gladiators, Lords and Barons and whatnot. it was almost like all epic shows on Netflix, minus the dragons of course, neatly woven into one Mega story.
One of the rare books that I'd like to listen to, at least once more.

Neuroscientist V. S. Ramachandran is internationally renowned for uncovering answers to the deep and quirky questions of human nature that few scientists have dared to address. His bold insights about the brain are matched only by the stunning simplicity of his experiments - using such low-tech tools such as cotton swabs, glasses of water, and dime-store mirrors.

Perhaps one of the best books on the functionality of human brain... answers a lot of questions that I've had. It goes on to prove that it's literally "all in the head"
Have had certain experiences in the past, which I wasn't able to explain using logic and rationality. Now I know that my brain was playing tricks.
Especially liked the way how Dr. Ramachamdran conducted experiments to support or contradict the theories, and discovered so many previously unknown facets of the human brain.
First few chapters have some technical terms mentioned. I'd urge the listeners not to get intimidated, as once you're through those couple of hurdles, the following chapters are a genuine treat for your ears... and your brain

He takes subjects that normally bore the pants off most of us, like geology, chemistry, and particle physics, and aims to render them comprehensible to people who have never thought they could be interested in science. In the company of some extraordinary scientists, Bill Bryson reveals the world in a way most of us have never seen it before.
