How to make networked systems eternally connected?
CONNECT eternally connected

CONNECT contributions to S&T toward enabling eternal networked software systems are available from this Web site, including software prototypes released under open source license. It is further intended to release part of the CONNECT software in the context of the newly created OW2 open source initiative FISSi on Future Internet Software and Services (see http://www.ow2.org/view/Future_Internet/).

In a nutshell, CONNECTintroduces the Emergent Middleware paradigm and supporting enablers so as to sustain interoperability in the increasingly dynamic, mobile and heterogeneous environment like the one envisioned for the Future Internet. CONNECT solutions in particular appear beneficial for the System of Systems area as well as for mobile collaborative apps.

An overview of the CONNECT's contribution is available from the project's final report

CONNECT Answer
  • CONNECT drops interoperability barriers by synthesizing on the fly the connectors via which networked systems communicate.
  • The synthesis process is based on a formal foundation for connectors, which allows learning, reasoning about and adapting the interaction behavior of networked systems at run-time.
  • Synthesized connectors are concrete emergent system entities that are dependable, unobtrusive, and evolvable, while not compromising the quality of software applications.
CONNECT Challenges
  • Modeling and reasoning about peer system functionalities
  • Modeling and reasoning about connector behaviors
  • Runtime synthesis of connectors
  • Learning connector behaviors
  • Dependability assurance
  • Performant system architecture
  • Experimenting in the field of wide area, highly heterogeneous systems where today's solutions to interoperability already fall short (e.g., systems of systems).
