Dr. Md. Iftekher Iqbal, one of the young glaucoma specialists from Bangladesh, is currently working as a consultant ophthalmologist at the Glaucoma Department of the Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital, Bangladesh.
He is also actively involved (as a "young glaucoma expert") with the Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Society (APGS) as an "associate board member".
He has extensive surgical experience in managing complicated cases, especially glaucoma and cataract-related cases, as well as with glaucoma drainage devices, pediatric glaucoma surgery, and different laser procedures (LPI, SLT, and cyclophotocoagulation, mainly). Introduced MIGS (TrabEx) for the first time in Bangladesh recently. An expert in Ophthalmic photography as well.
He is involved with teaching and mentoring in short-term and long-term fellowship programs for cataract (both MSICS and Phaco) and glaucoma run by his institute.
He is passionate about clinical research and has presented a few of his works nationally and internationally, including at the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) and European Society of Ophthalmology (SOE) congresses.
As part of his community work, he provides surgical help to rural areas of the country to reduce the cataract backlog.
Apart from all of these, he enjoys his leisure time with writing, photography, music, and traveling with family and friends.
