About this journal

The Journal für die reine und angewandte Mathematik is the oldest mathematics periodical still in existence. Founded in 1826 by August Leopold Crelle and edited by him until his death in 1855, it soon became widely known under the name of "Crelle's Journal". In the 190 years of its existence, "Crelle's Journal" has developed to an outstanding scholarly periodical with one of the worldwide largest circulations among mathematics journals. It belongs to the very top mathematics periodicals, as listed in ISI's Journal Citation Report.

In the title formulas or mathematical symbols should be avoided, if possible, or kept to a minimum. Only the first word and proper nouns should be capitalized. If the title is long, a shortened version should be supplied for the running heads, which together with the author’s name should not exceed 80 characters

Semicontinuous maps on module varieties

Abstract

We study semicontinuous maps on varieties of modules over finite-dimensional algebras. We prove that truncated Euler maps are upper or lower semicontinuous. This implies that 𝑔-vectors and 𝐸-invariants of modules are upper semicontinuous. We also discuss inequalities of generic values of some upper semicontinuous maps.

A lifting principle for canonical stability indices of varieties of general type

Abstract

For any integer n > 0 n>0 , the 𝑛-th canonical stability index r n r_{n} is defined to be the smallest positive integer so that the r n r_{n} -canonical map Φ r n \Phi_{r_{n}} is stably birational onto its image for all smooth projective 𝑛-folds of general type. We prove the lifting principle for { r n } \{r_{n}\} as follows: r n r_{n} is equal to the maximum of the set of those canonical stability indices of smooth projective ( n + 1 ) (n+1) -folds with sufficiently large canonical volumes. Equivalently, there exists a constant V ⁢ ( n ) > 0 \mathfrak{V}(n)>0 such that, for any smooth projective 𝑛-fold 𝑋 with the canonical volume vol ⁢ ( X ) > V ⁢ ( n ) \mathrm{vol}(X)>{\mathfrak{V}}(n) , the pluricanonical map φ m , X \varphi_{m,X} is birational onto the image for all m ≥ r n − 1 m\geq r_{n-1} .

The Chow ring of the moduli space of degree 2 quasi-polarized K3 surfaces

Abstract

We study the Chow ring with rational coefficients of the moduli space F 2 \mathcal{F}_{2} of quasi-polarized K3 surfaces of degree 2. We find generators, relations, and calculate the Chow Betti numbers. The highest nonvanishing Chow group is A 17 ⁢ ( F 2 ) ≅ Q \mathsf{A}^{17}(\mathcal{F}_{2})\cong{\mathbb{Q}} . We prove that the Chow ring consists of tautological classes and is isomorphic to the even cohomology. The Chow ring is not generated by divisors and does not satisfy duality with respect to the pairing into A 17 ⁢ ( F 2 ) \mathsf{A}^{17}(\mathcal{F}_{2}) . The kernel of the pairing is a 1-dimensional subspace of A 9 ⁢ ( F 2 ) \mathsf{A}^{9}(\mathcal{F}_{2}) which we calculate explicitly. In the appendix, we revisit Kirwan–Lee’s calculation of the Poincaré polynomial of F 2 \mathcal{F}_{2} .

Mixed Hodge structures and Siegel operators

Abstract

In this paper, we study mixed Hodge structures on the cohomology of locally symmetric varieties and give an application to modular forms. After proving vanishing of some Hodge numbers, we focus on the weight filtration on the last Hodge subspace of the middle degree cohomology. We prove that the weight filtration coincides with the corank filtration on the space of modular forms of canonical weight defined by the Siegel operators, and calculate the graded quotients. As an application, we deduce surjectivity of the total Siegel operators in many cases, and identify an obstruction space in the remaining case.

Ding stability and Kähler–Einstein metrics on manifolds with big anticanonical class

Abstract

We introduce a notion of uniform Ding stability for a projective manifold with big anticanonical class, and prove that the existence of a unique Kähler–Einstein metric on such a manifold implies uniform Ding stability. The main new techniques are to develop a general theory of Deligne functionals – and corresponding slope formulas – for singular metrics, and to prove a slope formula for the Ding functional in the big setting. This extends work of Berman in the Fano situation, when the anticanonical class is actually ample, and proves one direction of the analogue of the Yau–Tian–Donaldson conjecture in this setting. We also speculate about the relevance of uniform Ding stability and K-stability to moduli in the big setting.

Abstract

We prove formulae for the F 2 \mathbb{F}_{2} -Rasmussen invariant of satellite knots of patterns with wrapping number 2, using the multicurve technology for Khovanov and Bar-Natan homology developed by Kotelskiy, Watson, and the second author. A new concordance homomorphism, which is independent of the Rasmussen invariant, plays a central role in these formulae. We also explore whether similar formulae hold for the Ozsváth–Szabó invariant 𝜏.
