Just purchased this reel a few weeks ago and initial quality is excellent. I've got 20lb braid on mine for inshore saltwater fishing and have yet to catch anything on it, but casting / reeling a dozen or so times last time I was out and it was incredibly smooth. The main reason I bought this reel in this size (3000) was for the new drag system and as yet I have not been able to test it, but so far so great as far as I'm concerned. I've been a Penn fan my whole life and I'm excited to put this one through it's paces.

This is the smoothest and lightest Penn Reel I've ever used. I would recommend this to any serious saltwater angler. I paired mine with a 7' St. Croix rod for the best inshore setup I've ever owned. Throw some high quality braid on it and you got yourself a great reel. I also recommend the penn battle II for a bit more budget minded person, the the clash is what's up in saltwater spinning reels right now. You'd have to spend hundreds to get a Shimano that even comes close in my opinion.

I have used my clash 3000 reel extensively kayak fishing the Chesapeake Bay- 31 inch striped bass gave it a good workout- excellant drag, smooth, light weight- I teamed it up with a Penn Battallion 7-15 # 7' one piece rod and 20# Berkley Fireline- I have a Shimano Stradix 2500 FI and the Clash is just as smooth and nice as the Shimano for less money- with CNC cut gears, and sealed bearings, durability should not be a problem...

Very please with the smoothness of the reel and the fact that I can get 200 meters of 10lb J-Braid on it. The J-Braid is also a great line. Obviously only time will tell as to how good the reel is but first impressions are good.

Love this reel. Freshwater and smaller salt or combo water fish. Just fantastic. The drag is a work of art.
