🚁 NC State ECE is helping shape the future of drone communication.
Professor Ismail Guvenc is part of a 10-university team selected for an $8M NASA University Leadership Initiative to improve how drones communicate — especially in challenging, real-world conditions.
“This is advancing the state of the art in an area of critical and timely significance,” said Guvenc. “We’ll be modeling behavior and testing hybrid airborne-terrestrial networks right here at NC State using our AERPAW platform.”
From wildfire response to future delivery systems, the team’s work could make drone operations safer, smarter and more scalable.

Students showcased innovative solutions — from electric boats and fingerprint scanners to egg vending machines and STEM kits — all developed in collaboration with industry partners.
