International Relations

Nurturing and encouraging dialogue on a political, institutional and scientific level in Europe and worldwide.

As EMBL is engaged in relations with numerous institutions in its member states and beyond, maintaining and fostering close relations and dialogue with the scientific communities and government representatives are of key importance to our organisation.

These international relations are established and nurtured at a political, institutional and scientific level in Europe and worldwide.

We also lead EMBL’s engagement with the European Union’s institutions and other European Intergovernmental Research Organisations, in particular those represented in EIROforum. Additionally, we promote spreading scientific excellence through coordinating EMBL’s involvement in various ESFRI projects such as Elixir and Instruct-ERIC.

It is EMBL's firm belief that this engagement in collaborative research, shared infrastructures as well as open science and knowledge sharing are important investments for the future. With its strong focus on scientific excellence, and through the trusted networks with its member states as well as European and global partner institutes, EMBL forms the basis for successful multi-level science diplomacy.
