It’s been exactly 10 years since I last slung a leg over a Speedmaster. In fact it was one of the first fuel-injected versions to arrive on these shores and there was some confusion in the office as to whether they’d sent us the right one, given the injector gubbins were hidden behind such realistic, yet fake, carb bodies. Truth be told, even though it was pretty cool to look at, it felt somewhat dated. And although comfortable enough for a bit of sedate touring, it certainly wasn’t something you’d be chucking too hard at your favourite set of bends, especially with its long, raked-out forks. A bit of an old man’s bike I thought at the time. (Trust me, 10 years ago that statement was less ironic than it is today.)
