STUDIO GHIBLI MOVIES

Helen: What was the film that introduced you to Ghibli?

John: For me it was Princess Mononoke. I first watched it in my first week of university in student halls. I had never seen any Japanese animation in my life and the guy next to me kept saying, “Oh, that is a sick yak, mate.” I had never heard the word “sick” used in such a way before. All my horizons were expanding.

Helen: Did the yak seem sick to you?

John: No, he seemed perfectly healthy. I had no idea what was going on.

Dan: It’s the boar that’s sick.

Or is it humanity? I’m chuckling at and going, “Sick yak, bruv.”
