t’s hard to place Paula Volsky’s in the canon of fantasy literature. Part alternate history, part revolution re-telling, with a touch of a secondary world feel, it feels like a crossbetween Gaslamp and Steampunk before those terms were as commonplace as they are now. It’s almost Steelpunk in its sensibilities, and if written now might almost be considered YA (it’s certainly a coming of age story)
