Author LISA FUGARD fondly remembers birdwatching with her renowned playwright dad, Athol Fugard.
“My dad is now in his eighties and I’m in my fifties. Between us, we’ve racked up a lot of years. We also live continents apart — he’s in Stellenbosch and I’m in San Diego — so we don’t get to see each other as often as I’d like. When we do, my experience is always rich with memories woven in the present.

During my last visit, I sat with my father on his patio in Stellenbosch – both of us with a G & T in hand, silently watching the birds.
