WRITING YOUR FIRST ARTICLE

After all your hard work and writing the perfect query, you now have an article writing assignment. The editor has detailed the word count, deadline, the rights, and the payment, and now it’s time to write the article. Keep in mind everything you know about the magazine: the style, the tone, the use of quotes. You will now put it to good use.

If this is your first assignment and you aren’t sure how to begin, a formal outline is a good place to start. An outline can save you a lot of time in the long run because it will give you a structure to follow and help you stay on track.

CREATING AN EFFECTIVE OUTLINE

Outlining is an effective tool for organizing the information you collected for your article. It helps break down the content into manageable pieces and allows you to get a general feel for the flow of the article. Think back to your school days when you had to create outlines for a five-paragraph essay.
