Can you tell us what your motivation was to start The Path of the Horse Dean?
I was initially drawn to the work when I saw a documentary that showed two former army veterans doing a horse ride through the Rocky Mountains in the USA. They talked about how peaceful they felt, how totally in the moment they were. This is something I could relate to from my own experience so I had an ‘a-ha’ moment. I could do this! I knew horses, I had a beautiful place surrounded by forest, and I could relate to and have empathy for trauma victims in particular.
Then reality hit. What did I really know? How could I help beyond empathy, beyond just being with horses? And most importantly, how could I keep people emotionally safe and learn new ways of helping them manage?
