Settled in Shetland

In the days leading up to our move to Shetland I became hooked on the webcams that stream live images of these islands around the world. It was a mad rush of packing whilst caring for my nine-month-old son but every now and then I would open my laptop and watch. Not the cliffs with all their seabirds or beguiling island shores, but people going about their business in the main town of Lerwick. It was as if I was searching for a glimpse of what it might feel like to be an islander, to live in a place that seemed to me then, so remote and so remarkable.
