REGENERATIVE CELL THERAPY
Scientists from the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine – one of the largest and most comprehensive research centres dedicated to identifying a cure for diabetes – recently identified and confirmed the existence of progenitor cells within the pancreas in both people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This breakthrough opens the door to potentially develop therapeutic interventions that could reawaken the cells within the pancreas to regenerate insulin-producing cells. The findings are published in the peer-reviewed journal PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences).
SUPPORT FOR TYPE 2
After the success of its pilot, Diabetes WA has released their online program, MyDESMOND. This self-management resource – designed for West Australians living with type 2 who are 18 and over and registered on the NDSS – offers short videos, learning sessions and interactive activities aimed at improving health and diabetes management. As well as providing guidance and support from health professionals, the program is designed to help motivate people to achieve goals in.
