THE TURN OF THE TIDE

She was furious with her friends. Was this a joke? Surely they couldn’t expect her to spend her landmark birthday on her own, on a windswept beach? In November? Birthdays had always meant a trip to London, at the very least. And for this one, she’d expected Paris. Or even New York!

The four of them took it in turns to organise each other’s celebrations. They ate, drank, danced, shopped, laughed. Sometimes cried too. But this was the most ludicrous idea!

‘You need some time. On your own. To reconnect. And think about your life,’ Kate had told her, presenting her with a basket filled with goodies to take with her.
