Literary escapes
Like many people, I have found much pleasure and escapism in reading during lockdown, so I was delighted to see your list of 36 recommended summer reads in your August issue.
Having just finished Claire Tomalin’s brilliant it seemed fitting that I was drawn to the 17th-century crime fiction novel by Iain Pears. This was a completely new genre for me but, as I browsed my local St Helena charity bookshop in Essex, I was delighted to pick it up and proceeded to spend five days totally engrossed in this ingenious and really addictive story. What a great read - thank you to Robyn Young for the tip! by Rebecca Skloot. After a couple of chapters, I am already hooked…
