BIG WINTER SKIES IN NORFOLK
The splendid coastal landscape at Holkham, with its deserted beaches and huge skies, is at its most dramatic during winter, and you can witness one of the greatest bird extravaganzas in Europe – the arrival of pink-footed geese.
TAKE A WALK From the Lookout visitor centre, follow a beautiful section of boardwalk through the woods to a lagoon at Holkham Meals. Climb among the dunes, then follow the beach east towards Wells-next-the-Sea, returning via the pine woods or along the Norfolk Coast Path. The circular walk is around 5km.
Listen out for the calls of short-eared owls, which settle here in winter. They can be spotted hunting during daylight hours.
