Wild about dandelions

I USED to think that one dandelion looked pretty much like the next, so it came as a surprise to learn that there are actually more than 220 species of them in the British Isles alone. What’s more, they’re apomictic, which means they come true from seed without needing even to self-pollinate. It’s Nature’s way of ensuring they are always with us.

Yet even botanists admit they are hard to tell apart, so alike do all dandelions look. of them Scots—look forward keenly, in due season, to their dandelion walks and talks, their botanical forays and their dandelion study days.
