Behind the Scenes

Every month, new British Columbia history books and digital media are released. One of my goals with “Refracting History” is to share as many titles as possible with readers so you can seek out the ones that intrigue you. The search for great books to profile is an ongoing process. I comb through publishers’ websites to find forthcoming titles, and several publishers email lists of books that they hope will pique the interest of British Columbia History magazine readers. Usually, I preview a digital copy of the book to get a sense of the content before requesting a review copy. Indie authors often email information about their new book, and I enjoy the opportunity to talk with them and learn about their work.

Sometimes books arrive unexpectedly in the mail—a boost to this bibliophile’s day!
