Before Ice-T became rap’s Original Gangster, street cop Scotty Appleton in the 1991 Mario Van Peebles classic New Jack City, frontman of the heavy metal band Body Count or Detective Odafin Tutuola on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, he was Tracy Marrow from Newark, New Jersey.

Born in 1958 to Solomon and Alice Marrow, Ice-T endured a series of tragedies early on that would shape his life’s trajectory.
