INTO THE FUTURE

I grew up climbing trees in my parent’s front yard—there were eight maple trees along the driveway—in suburban Maryland in the US. Here, my time was undisturbed. This was in the 1960s. That childhood interest soon turned into a love for climbing trees, and, as a natural progression, became my field of interest, which led me to discover the field of treetop biology as a scientist. When I began work, little did I know I would become an inspiration for many, including a series of explorer Barbie dolls!
