ON THE RIGHT TRACK

For Clay Davies, the UK’s only openly gay male elite rider, the road ahead seems clear – to make his sport more inclusive for everyone.

The 29-year-old cyclist, who competes for Spirit Bontrager BSS Rotor, hit the headlines in July when he came out and drew attention to homophobia within cycling.

Although the chief executive of British Cycling – the sport’s governing body in the UK – condemned homophobia and transphobia in September, Davies tells Attitude that the sport still has a long way to go to eradicate the “lad culture” ingrained at the top level. As he tells us here, Davies says it is going to need a team effort to bring about change and he’s looking to British Cycling to lead the way.
