NESTING DOLLS

DIFFICULTY RATING

Before you begin:

You don't have to make your dolls in the same style as these; you may prefer the more traditional Russian style or something completely different.

They could be designed as animals or inanimate objects, but providing the shape is roughly the same, the method is the same.

You will need:

Download and print off some images of forms that inspire you and that you think could be translated to clay. Pinterest is a good resource.

Plus:

3 x sheets of A4 paper to make outline templates

Knife, pencil, cutting mat (optional)

Material to make outline former from – foam board used here but thin MDF or rigid cardboard would work

Clay of choice – earthenware or stoneware, preferably white firing

Rolling pin, plastic sheet, 5mm thick roller guides

Stamps of choice to impress a garment design

Decorating materials of choice – slips, underglazes and/or glazes to fit clay type

Template for shape only. Use
