WHAT WAS mesmerism?

Mesmerism was a popular pseudoscience of the 18th and 19th centuries.

It was named after its originator, Franz Anton Mesmer (1734-1815), a Vienna-trained German doctor. He developed the theory that all living things and inanimate objects possess an invisible energy or ‘vital’ force that flows through numerous channels in the body.
