Winterfylleth keyboardist Mark Deeks, Arð is both an extension of that band’s deep dive into British history and landscapes, is an evocation of the former, lore-steeped Anglian kingdom of Northumbria, and the tale of St. Cuthbert, who commanded his fellow monks to carry his remains around the country after his death. Black metal clearly wasn’t the most appropriate medium.
