THE BEACH HUT

Sarah’s shoes crunched on the wet pebbles as she made her way along the dismal beach. A lone seagull let out a hungry, angry shriek and fixed her with a cold gaze as he swooped above.

Feeling emptiness inside, she looked over to the imposing headland beyond. The crop of chalk-white cliffs was shrouded in a heavy cloud, like a cloak of grey velvet hanging in the air. It wasn’t raining but it might as well have been.

The damp sea mist chilled her bones. It was also ruining the new hairstyle she had paid too much money for the day before. Why, she asked herself, had she bothered to make this long, tedious journey?

Three weeks earlier, Sarah’s computer screen had frozen and she’d been watching the tiny spinning wheel that had appeared like an annoying wasp. It was definitely another bad day at the office.
