This is a treatment where radiation is used to kill cancer cells

Radiotherapy may be used in early cancer or after it’s spread, also being effective after surgery. How well it works varies between patients. It can be given in several ways, usually in hospital, depending on which you may have to stay in hospital for a few days. The team treating you will recommend the best type for you with a plan of treatment sessions, often daily, over several weeks.

As well as killing cancer cells, radiotherapy can damage healthy cells in the area being treated. Side
