My Roots’ Home

My first home, and the home of my family’s roots, was in the town of Pompton Falls, N.J. My grandmother’s family, the Cards, had lived there for generations, dating back to a Peter Card in 1776. In the early 1930s, my parents and I were living in an upstairs apartment in a house owned by my grandmother, known to her grandchildren as “Gram.”

Our apartment had four small rooms, but those four rooms were filled with love, and that’s what makes a house a home.
