e are not much for Christmas rituals in our family. Which is not to say that we don’t love the holiday period – in fact, we Yees are mad for it – but we like to do things our own way. My mum once gathered armfuls of branches and stuck them in an empty vase and called it a Christmas tree; we have had Christmas lunches of yum cha and Christmas dinners of prawn spaghetti.
