THE BEST LAID PLANS

EMBARRASSED by it all now, so long ago it was, that I was going to throw this newspaper photo from May 1999 out when my husband Les handed it to me the other evening. Then I thought to write it up, as it was a most interesting adventure – overall.

In 1999 I was out of sorts with family life, so I decided I needed a couple of days away. I packed up my rucksack for an overnight walk to explore a gully running down the eastern side of the ridge north of Mt Feathertop. From a previous trip on the Bogong High Plains, it could be seen tumbling steep but clear of forest in a straight line down to the West Kiewa River. It looked like bracken both sides of the creek – all up, about 40 feet across.
