BRINGING SOME CLOSURE TO THE MATTER
I’ve put it off for years, but it’s now time for me to hang up my helmet, so to speak.
From 14 years old, I’ve always had an interest in two wheels; back then I became friends with Graham (I’m not using many full names in this article, in order to protect the innocent – or not-so-innocent). Graham was a wild card; he’d been in borstal and was a person most avoided. For some reason we both hit it off and had some crazy times together.
Graham was an ‘inventor’ (I use the term loosely); one of his inventions was the conversion of a normal bicycle into a hybrid pedal motorcycle; the rear end was standard bicycle setup, but he’d adapted the front end by fitting a motorcycle front wheel, complete with brake and forks. The bloody thing was a monster to ride. You needed the strength and muscles of an Olympian to pedal the bloody thing!
Although I didn’t know it back then, my lifetime career in print/publishing and my recreational lifestyle would eventually come together, leading to where I am today.
