LC: You just retired as CEO of the Saskatchewan Arts Board (SK Arts). What was your day-to-day as CEO? Zooming out: What was your mission?
MJ: I’ll start with the bigger picture. Public arts funding in Canada, including Saskatchewan, began after World War II. The primary goals were to develop a uniquely Canadian artistic voice and to ensure access to the arts across our vast, sparsely populated country. We succeeded in fostering a strong arts community but still struggle with the latter goal.
