WHY THEOLOGY MATTERS

In an age of information overload and countless voices claiming authority in spiritual matters, it’s essential for believers to understand why theology matters. Theology is not a lofty pursuit reserved for scholars; it’s the foundation of our faith and the lens through which we view God, ourselves, and the world around us. Understanding theology equips us to live faithfully in a world that increasingly drifts from biblical truth. It’s time to return to God’s Word and ensure our beliefs are rooted in Scripture.

1 Understanding theology

The word “theology” comes from the Greek (God) and (word or study). Theology is By studying theology, we gain godly wisdom that impacts our lives and shapes our hearts. Many Christians today rely solely on church teachings or popular interpretations, often without a personal understanding of what Scripture says. This has led to a shallow faith that cannot withstand the cultural winds blowing through society. Hebrews 5:12-14 describes the importance of moving beyond “milk” and growing in maturity, urging believers to exercise discernment. Theology offers the tools to deepen our faith and live in alignment with God’s purposes.
