Overall difficulty rating
The 1685cc common-rail four-cylinder diesel engine that powers the i40 seen here is straightforward to service. Before draining the engine oil, it’s worthwhile removing the oil filter to allow more of that oil to be removed. We suspect we didn’t manage to drain as much of the oil as we had hoped because of the position of the drain plug, which is on the side of the sump. Consequently, despite the oil capacity of the engine is 5.3 litres, we only added 5 litres and found it was sufficient.
