About this audiobook
New York Times bestselling author of On the Island, Tracey Garvis Graves, presents the compelling, hopelessly romantic audiobook of unconditional love.
Annika (rhymes with Monica) Rose is an English major at the University of Illinois. Anxious in social situations where she finds most people's behavior confusing, she'd rather be surrounded by the order and discipline of books or the quiet solitude of playing chess.
Jonathan Hoffman joined the chess club and lost his first game--and his heart--to the shy and awkward, yet brilliant and beautiful Annika. He admires her ability to be true to herself, quirks and all, and accepts the challenges involved in pursuing a relationship with her. Jonathan and Annika bring out the best in each other, finding the confidence and courage within themselves to plan a future together. What follows is a tumultuous yet tender love affair that withstands everything except the unforeseen tragedy that forces them apart, shattering their connection and leaving them to navigate their lives alone.
Now, a decade later, fate reunites Annika and Jonathan in Chicago. She's living the life she wanted as a librarian. He's a Wall Street whiz, recovering from a divorce and seeking a fresh start. The attraction and strong feelings they once shared are instantly rekindled, but until they confront the fears and anxieties that drove them apart, their second chance will end before it truly begins.

Readers find this title to be a lovely story with wonderful characters. The writing is impeccable and the story is emotional with ups and downs. It is a feel-good love story about second chances and the strength of love and supportive families. Some readers wished for an epilogue or a more complete ending, but overall, it is highly recommended and worth the read. The underlying theme of autism spectrum and the relationships between the characters are also appreciated. It is an interesting and enjoyable book that hits a nerve in the soul.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was so sweet. I really enjoyed the characters. It would have been even better with an epilogue or some tying up of minor storylines; however, it’s not significant for me to remove a star.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved all the characters. Wonderful story. Definitely worth the read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really liked the love story with underlying theme of autism spectrum of main character, Annika. I learned so much. And enjoyed the relationship between Annika /Jonathan, Annika/Janice.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I enjoyed The Girl He Used To Know especially how the characters Jonathan and Annika developed and matured as they aged. It was a lovely story about relationships and how people can choose to treat one another with kindness or cruelty. I would have liked to have seen an epilogue. The ending was left the feeling the story was not complete. M Jennings
