    Readers find this title to be a top read this year. The writing is fantastic, with lots going on but overall so good. The book is heart-wrenching, funny, and has amazing characters. The story is amazing and the narration is great. It is well researched, detailed, and relatable. The book explores important themes of family, love, identity, citizenship, community, pride, culture, and power. While some found the beginning slow, once the pieces started to fit together, it was hard to put down. The ending is a perfect mix of happily ever after and plot twist. Overall, it is a compelling read with important messages and superb narration.

      I loved this audiobook and the three narrators did a great job reading their parts! I’m so glad I listened to this as I don’t think I would have understood this as well. The narration just added so much to the setting.

      Somewhat slow to start…at least the first half is mostly character development (I didn’t figure out the main conflict until the last dozen chapters).

      Once all the pieces started to fit together it was hard to put down! The ending was the perfect mix of happily ever after and plot twist

      Overall it has made me miss learning Spanish and about the Puerto Rican culture.

      Loved the story telling mixed with history and current significant details. There were parts that were a bit drawn out towards the middle. I enjoyed witnessing the psychology of how one person’s drive can affect other’s perception of themselves and the world. It was a celebration of culture while acknowledging the sacrifice that comes from it and how covert it can be.

      There were times in the reading that my anger was stirred up by the politics and greed that actually existed after hurricane Marie. I did not enjoy being reminded of the lack of empathy the US government exhibited toward the people of Puerto Rico .

      I loved the love for Puerto Rico that you can feel the author put in, however the story itself between the multiple point of views, the unnecessary alluding of things with almost no hints of what exactly happened until it was said out. Over all the story had heart, but the story was all over the place no real sense of completion with the book, no sense of direction— can feel some themes but the book does nothing to reassure their readers they’d come to a conclusion. Wouldn’t read again. Would watch if they made a film?
