About this audiobook
When siblings Dan and Hayley Daley inherit their late grandmother’s derelict Victorian farmhouse, it seems like a dream come true. All they have to do is fix the place up and sell it for a tidy profit!
Except—as anyone who has renovated an old house knows—things are never that easy.
The walls are rapidly crumbling around them, the architect is a certified lunatic, the budget is spiraling…and then there’s the disturbingly intelligent cow to worry about.
On top of all this, the renovation is being featured on a daytime reality TV show, and as soon as Great Locations presenter Gerard O’Keefe catches sight of Hayley’s first-floor balcony, he’s determined to woo her out of her ban on romance, whether she wants him to or not.
Will Dan and Hayley survive and sell up? Or will the whole thing collapse on them like a ton of bricks?
From bestselling author Nick Spalding comes a hilarious tale of life, love and dodgy plumbing.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Danny and Hayley are brother and sister and they've have inherited a old house from their grandmother, its falling down and needs so much TLC that they end up having a complete renovation done and shown on TV. The characters know nothing about renovating a house and there's very little money to go into their project. As we move along they find out this is exactly what they need to move on with their lives. Although the do have help from the builders,an architect and his assistant, then later from a TV presenter. Here we have an unlucky duo in love and work and its good to see them change and find out more about their grandmother along the way. there are some very funny moments in the book that had my chortling with laughter on my commute to work. I'm glad I found this book and I might read more of Mr Spalding's books if all of them are little pick me ups like this one.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The description of this one was intriguing - a brother and sister inherit a dilapidated farmhouse and decide to fix it up to sell for a profit. It sounded a little like the movie, The Money Pit, a favorite of mine from the mid-80s. The book didn't quite live up to its potential, but there were funny moments that kept me listening.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Sorry, but not funny :(I've come to the conclusion that the sort of humour that might have me laughing mercilessly at a dinner party, simply doesn't work in print. This book was the perfect example, it was so NOT funny, I'm sorry, but it was simply ridiculous!I liked the pretext, an old house, bequeathed to two siblings by their Gran, provides the chance to make some real money - if they attempt to improve it, rather than selling the dilapidated building as-is. The added complication of a colourful architect and their appearance on the television programme, Great Locations, should have made this a four-star read.Unfortunately I was not amused at the image of Dan working so hard on the roof beams, that he can't make it downstairs to the toilet and has to poo in a packing crate - predictably, just as his boss pops up through the hatch. I couldn't see the point of the cow and there really was no need to find a butt plug up the chimney, please! So, a great opportunity for some amusing building anecdotes alongside a narrative about revamping an old house, lost in favour of a farce. Sorry for the scathing review, but I was not alone, my views were totally supported by my book group.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Hayley and Dan Dayley inherit their grandmother's old Victorian home out in the English countryside. It's been abandoned for a half century but Hayley sees the potential of renovating and selling the property for a tidy profit. What follows is a hilarious, sometimes raunchy story involving flamboyant and outrageous characters and a cow. If you don't take it too seriously and enjoy British humor, you will certainly laugh at loud at times. Fun easy read.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5For fans of HGTV and home-improvement projects everywhere, this ufn little novel is about a brother and sister who inherit a decrepit Victorian farmhouse from their grandmother. If they can just fix it up, they'll be able to turn a tidy profit on the improvements. But of course, we all know it's never that easy. Contractors, unexpected damage, and even an intractable cow all have roles to play in making the renovation more challenging (and exciting!).
All in all, this is a fun read. Some of the British slang was a bit over my head, and a couple of loose ends were tied up just a bit too neatly for my taste, but I don't hesitate to recommend it if you enjoy curling up on your couch to watch Love It Or List It!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A mix of chick lit., and reality tv.
If you like that mix, this is for you.
Not my cup of tea, but the cow was interesting!
