About this ebook

Many have believed that Atlantis was a fiction created by Plato. Well Plato was not the first to write about it.

We have found a very much earlier document. It was written in 9619 BC, about 9,250 years before Plato’s writing.

This ancient document is believed to be the oldest document that has survived almost intact down through the ages.

Further, archeological finds and scientific evidence provide convincing proof that Atlantis really did exist; Atlantis was real.

We structure the evidence that we found as answers to 3 basic questions. First, if Atlantis did exist how was it created?

If Atlantis existed, did it influence anything; leave any evidence of its existence; leave a legacy?

If Atlantis did exist where are its remains?

This is Part I The Creation of Atlantis.

Read and you will become convinced that Atlantis really did exist.

Hi! Thanks so much for your interest in my books! My principal interests are true stories of the unusual or of the previously Unknown or unexplained. I have occasionally also written some fiction.I was born in Memphis Tennessee and grew up in Saltillo Mississippi, a small town near Tupelo Mississippi. High School life was dominated by watching the rise of our local Elvis. I was editor of the High School Paper and had plenty to write about. I guess this was the beginning of my writing career. After graduating from Mississippi State University as an aerospace engineer I moved to Orlando Florida and worked for Lockheed Martin for 24 years. I advanced from an aerospace engineer to a Vice President of the Company and President of the Tactical Weapons Systems Division.Education ActivitiesI continued my education throughout my career with a MBA degree from Rollins College and with Post Graduate Studies in Astrophysics at UCLA; Laser Physics at the University of Michigan; Computer Science at the University of Miami; Gas Dynamics at MMC and Finance and Accounting at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. While at Mississippi State University I was on the President’s Honor List and in the honor societies of Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Gamma Tau and Blue Key.I received a scholarship from Delta Air Lines based on my academics and performance.I was in ROTC and the Arnold Air Society where I participated and toured as a member of the precision Drill Team. I also attended the summer survival training at Hamilton Air Force Base in California.I was selected for Who’s Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges.I was a speaker for several technical organizations including the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. After Retirement from Lockheed Martin Aerospace CompanyAfter retirement from Lockheed I formed Parks-Jaggers Aerospace Company and sold it 4 years later. After selling my aerospace company I formed Quest Studios, Quest Entertainment and Rosebud Entertainment to make films at Universal Studios. I produced 11 films, directed 7 films and wrote 5 film scripts produced at Universal Studios.I won the National Association of Theater Owners Show South Producer of Tomorrow Award.I then formed UnknownTruths Publishing Company to publish true stories of the unusual or of the previously Unknown or unexplained. These include books about past events so unbelievable that most people have relegated them to "myths".I have published 37 books in eBook format, Paperback format and as Audio Books. I have an additional 12 books in development.

This book is written in 3 parts:

Part I The Creation of Atlantis

Part II The Atlantians and Their Legacy

Part III The Destruction of Atlantis

Ancient eyewitnesses, long before Plato, documented the destruction of Atlantis in 9619 BC.

History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon.

    Napoleon Bonaparte

    1769 – 1821

In writing this book, I stood on the shoulders of giants. Most of the concepts and material herein is based on ancient documents written by great, unknown authors in the era we have previously called pre-history.

Pre-history because most of today’s professional historians in academia have not yet recognized the great antiquity of some of the stories in the clay tablets of ancient Babylon and Sumer, nor the even greater age of some parts of the Hebrew Bible. Nor has academia recognized the great antiquity of some pre-history civilizations.

But the evidence is conclusive that great civilizations did exist more than 11,000 years ago. It is hoped that academia will soon acknowledge this certain fact.

I am deeply grateful to the unknown writers of yesteryear for providing me the insight to this certain fact.

I am also deeply indebted to the great classical writers of a much later age. The principal ones are Homer writing in about 800 BC, Herodotus in about 450 BC, Plato about 380 BC, Strabo about 30 BC, and Ovid in 1 AD. They had access to ancient documents and oral traditions that are not available today. Yet we can see elements from their source stories when we carefully study their writings and compare such elements that are common among them.

Extracting these common elements and comparing them to similar elements from the stories in the clay tablets and the other sources from greater antiquity, established the foundation for this book.

The story that developed from this foundation was very adverse to the established understandings of human history and religion. It therefore had to be verified by scientific evidence to have any credibility.

    I am grateful to a more modern group of writers for providing insight to existing scientific data. These writers include I. Donnelly writing in 1882 and 1885, R. B. Anderson in 1888, I. Velikovsky in 1956 and 1977, C. H. Hapgood in 1958 through 1979, G. Hawkins in 1977, C. Sagan in 1977, J. A. West in 1979 and 1989, Z. Sitchin in 1983 and 1990, G. Hancock in 1993, R. Bauval in 1994, C. Wilson in 1995, Rand and Rose Flem-Ath in 1995, D. S. Allan and J. B. Delair in 1997.

I cannot agree with all the conclusions of these modern writers in that the evidence for some of their ideas is not as conclusive for me. Some of the evidence does, however, support some of my ideas, and I am grateful to them for the insights their work provided.

The unknown writers of old; the classical writers of ancient Greece and Rome; and the modern writers listed above, all shaped my understandings of, arguably, the greatest event in the history of mankind.

The generally unknown truths revealed by these ancient stories and contemporary scientific evidence is fundamental to our understanding of true history, important to some of our religious concepts, and vital to foretelling our future – and the destiny of mankind.

    I thank them all.

    Preface

Almost all of the ancient societies have stories of a great country from which their ancestors migrated. They frequently describe it as a shinning paradise. Plato said that it was Atlantis.

Many people today want to believe that Atlantis really did exist. Many believe that Atlantis was just a story created by Plato; just a myth.

Troy was a myth too until Archeologist Schliemann found it.

In our search for Atlantis we have found and gathered an enormous amount of conclusive evidence and documented it in this 3 part book.

Please remember that many myths have origins in truths – great, Unknown Truths.

    Read, learn – and enjoy.

    Chapter 1

    Introduction

Some say that Atlantis is a myth. Troy was a myth too until Archeologist Schliemann found it. Come along with me and let’s find Atlantis.

    Walter Parks

Ancient literature and mythology is filled with stories of an early civilization that was destroyed by a great worldwide flood. Plato said it was Atlantis.

Plato has long been accepted as the first to write about Atlantis and this was documented in his classic dialogs: Timaeus and Critias written about 360 to 370 BC. The dialogues are recorded as conversations between Socrates, Hermocrates, Timeaus, and Critias.

Plato’s story describes Atlantis and a conflict between the ancient Athenians (Greeks) and the Atlantians that occurred 9,000 years before Plato's time. The story was initially told to an ancestor of Critias by Solon who was told the story by an ancient Egyptian priest.

Many have believed that Atlantis is a fiction created by Plato.

Hey, after all Plato wrote about Atlantis 9,000 years after it was destroyed!

Well Plato was not the first to write about it.

We have found a very much earlier document. It was written in 9619 BC, about 9,250 years before Plato’s writing.

This ancient document is believed to be the oldest document that has survived almost intact down through the ages.

Further, archeological finds and scientific evidence provide convincing proof that Atlantis really did exist. Atlantis is perhaps just the latest old myth becoming a reality.

Scientific findings have in the past proved that many of the ancient myths were based in reality.

We believe that we have assembled enough evidence to prove that Atlantis was real. Let’s review what we have found.

We structure the evidence that we found as answers to 3 basic questions. First, if Atlantis did exist how was it created?

If Atlantis existed, did it influence anything; leave any evidence of its existence; leave a legacy?

If Atlantis did exist where are its remains?

To answer these questions we describe Atlantis in the 3 parts:

Part I The Creation of Atlantis

Part II The Atlantians and Their Legacy

Part III The Destruction of Atlantis

Part I covers the period from 225 to 2.45 million years ago in which Atlantis was created.

Part II covers the period from 45,000 BC to 9,619 BC in which the Atlantians migrated to Atlantis and set up their society and flourished.

Part III covers the year of destruction, 9619 BC.

    Chapter 2

    The Creation of Atlantis

Civilization exists by geological consent, subject to change without notice.

    Will Durant

Earth’s geological forces continuously change the face of Earth; some very slowly through the ages, and some very suddenly. The most well known slow changes are caused by wind, rain and other weather erosions. But perhaps the greatest of the slow changes are caused by plate tectonics which cause the continents to continuously drift relative to each other.

Forces associated with plate tectonics can also cause sudden changes like the disasters of earthquakes and volcanoes; the building of new land like the Island of Surtsey in Iceland and new land formations by volcanoes in Iceland and Hawaii; and the sinking of land masses recorded in geological history.

It was the forces of plate tectonics that created Atlantis. And it was the forces of plate tectonics triggered by a celestial impact that destroyed Atlantis.

Perhaps the best solid evidence for the existence of Atlantis predates Plato’s dialogs. Let’s go back in time to about 225-250 million years ago and see the evidence for how Atlantis was created.

At that time essentially all of Earth’s land masses were grouped into one large continent called Pangaea; meaning all lands in Greek. But the land masses sit on large structures in the Earth’s crust call tectonic plates. These plates are constantly moving and this causes the various land masses, continents and islands to drift relative to each other.

Pangaea was the fourth time that almost all of Earth’s land masses came together.

The Earth itself is made of 3 layers: the crust, mantle, and core. The mantle has a brittle portion somewhat like the crust, and a softer portion that interfaces with the molten core. The crust and the brittle top of the mantle ride, you may say float, on the softer part of the mantle and core. This moving portion of Earth’s surface is made up of several plates as depicted. These plates are steadily moving relative to each other.

Earth’s surface is composed of the several drifting tectonic plates as outlined. The three of most interest concerning Atlantis are the North American Plate, the Eurasian Plate and the African Plate.

Movement of these plates is caused by the release and redistribution of energy from Earth's interior. This energy results from the enormous forces of gravity on the great masses of Earth and on thermal energy generated by radioactive decay. The energies are not uniform and the differences at various locations place great stresses on the rocks and other materials that make up the Earth’s surfaces.

The drifting of these plates changed the surface of the Earth from the single continent of Pangaea, and a single ocean, to the various continents and oceans that we have today.

This drifting is the primary cause of earthquakes, volcanoes, the creation and rising of mountains, and the sinking of land masses.

It is the rising of mountains that created Atlantis; it is the sinking of land masses that destroyed Atlantis.

And the continents continue to drift apart at the rate of a fraction of an inch to a few inches per year. As the land masses of North America drifted apart from the land masses of Europe and Africa, the Atlantic Ocean was created. As they pulled apart, the crust that makes up the Ocean’s bottom became thinner. This thinness results in a weakness that allowed the hot magma below the upper crust to break through the bottom of the Ocean and form a ridge.

The tectonic plates pulling apart created a thinnest that resulted in hot magma flowing up to create a long ridge in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

This resulted in an underwater mountain range that is the longest mountain range in the world; longer than the Andes
