      My Soap Story

      A family history of sensitive skin problems including eczema and psoriasis, that I could not escape lead me to soapmaking. My first unforgettable experience happened when I was in the fourth grade, the same year I got glasses.

      I had to be picked up early from school because I had developed a severe rash and could not stop scratching. I was miserable. At the doctors office, we were told that I probably had an allergic reaction to the laundry detergent used to wash my clothes. So naturally, my mother changed laundry detergents and I and my skin were fine for many years.

      But then years later while living in Germany where the water was a bit harsher on my skin, I began to have frequent bouts of itching, controlled with over the counter medication--Benadryl. I never left home without it. It would be almost another ten years before the Benadryl remedy ceased to work.
