    Emily and Simone expect a normal night out at the Cinema, but their friend Caitlyn is acting very strange. She is totally distracted and her only interest is in riding in cars with her head out the window with the wind blowing though her hair. Emily and Simone are very concerned, and for a very good reason. Caitlyn is willing to get into a car with any random driver, and she does.
    Emily and Simone plan to be with Caitlyn at all times to protect her, but that proves very difficult.
    Emily's brother, Luke, is enlisted to help them out and he ends up helping them much more than anyone ever imagined.

    I was born in Cincinnati and grew up in the American Mid-West. I graduated from the University of Notre Dame and received a Masters in Education from the University of Cincinnati. I became a teacher and found a job teaching English and Film and Television at Trinity Bay State High School in Cairns, Australia. As a teacher I wrote many One Act Plays that students enjoyed performing in. I became the Rugby coach at the school and began writing novels that my students could read, relate to and understand. I decided to publish the novels under the name of Teen Friendly Books. At present I have 24 written and 15 published. My plan is to write many more books for teens to read and enjoy.

      Chapter 1

      Going Out

      Emily looked into the mirror. She closed her eyes, then opened them again. Nothing changed.

      She was not at all impressed by what she saw. Staring back at her was a blonde haired fifteen-year-old girl with big brown eyes and three massive pimples.

      She did not look at the hair. She did not look at the eyes. She only saw the three gigantic pimples on the face. She stared and stared at them. That did not help them disappear.

      They stood their ground boldly and defiantly and Emily could not take her eyes off them.

      My face is so ugly with those three zits, she mumbled to herself.

      She put toothpaste on them ten minutes before and was impatiently waiting for them to disappear completely. She kept staring at them but nothing seemed to be happening. They glared back as if to say, We’re still here.

      Oh, go away you ugly zits, she shouted at the mirror. She turned away. She could not stand the repulsive sight of them.

      Luke, her eighteen-year-old brother shouted, Emily I am leaving in five minutes, you better be ready or you are staying home tonight by yourself with the cockroaches and the snakes.

      Emily spun around and gazed into the mirror again. She smiled and this time all that she saw was metal, great hunks of metal on her teeth. She closed her mouth immediately. The pimples caught her eye again.

      Pimples and braces, she moaned, I’ll be staying home alone. Me and my ugly face filled with pimples and braces. Uuuuugh!

      Again Luke shouted, I’m leaving and you will have to stay home alone with the rats and the bats.

      Five minutes was not nearly enough time for her to finish getting dressed. Emily knew that and her brother knew that too.

      Luke was in a hurry. He was always in a hurry to get somewhere, and when he got there he had nothing to do but to say, We are going home in two hours so you better be ready when I am.

      As far as being home alone with the snakes and the cockroaches and the rats and the bats, she was not very concerned. She knew that Luke was trying to scare her in the hope that she would be frightened and would rush to get out of the house as quickly as possible.

      He was always trying to scare her so she would hurry up and get ready and get into his car so that they could get somewhere on time.

      Do you hear me? We are leaving in five minutes, Luke barked at her again.

      Emily still did not say anything. She had been through this many times before. Luke would never dare leave her alone. He was always very protective of his little sister. He would never allow her to be in a situation where she could be in danger.

      He would never leave without her and she knew it.

      You’ve been getting ready for over an hour, five minutes will have to be enough, Luke called out a few minutes later.

      She started getting ready an hour and a half ago, but she was not going to tell that to Luke. Suddenly she decided to break her silence, I’ll try to be ready in ten minutes, but I haven’t even started my make-up yet, Emily shouted to him.

      Hurry up and slop it on your face, Luke said, you said that you have to meet your friends at six o’clock, that means we have thirty minutes to get there.

      Emily knew that her friends Caitlyn and Simone were always at least ten minutes late. So she knew that if she was dropped off at the cinema in about forty minutes, she would be there in plenty of time.

      She did not need to rush her final decision about what she would wear or to put the final touches on her make-up.

      Make-up can’t be slopped on, Emily yelled. It has to be thoughtfully applied.

      Well then thoughtfully apply it in a hurry, Luke replied.

      I can’t do that until I decide on what I am going to wear, Emily yelled back, I’ve narrowed it down to three outfits and four pairs of shoes.

      If its too hard for you to choose, I’ll come up and decide for you, Luke shouted.

      Emily laughed at the thought of Luke making a fashion decision. It would end up being a total disaster. He was not at all fashion conscious. He was lucky to wear the same colour socks on any given day.

      That’s all right, I really don’t need your help, Emily replied, I should be ready in fifteen minutes.

      She expected his outburst and was ready for it.

      I’ll tell you for the last time that I am leaving in ten minutes with or without you, Luke reminded her.

      Quit distracting me with your talking so I can concentrate on getting dressed, teased Emily.

      Emily made quick decisions about her clothes and that made the eye shadow decision easy. She took some time deciding about her shoes, however.

      She was leaning toward her new pair with big heels, but they were only going to the movies, so she would not get the proper chance to show them off or to show off her new height, since they would be sitting and would be in the dark for most of the night.

      Luke was silent for ten minutes then shouted I’m walking out the door now.

      Emily yelled back, Two minutes, I need two minutes.

      You get two minutes, two minutes exactly, Luke yelled. Your time starts now.

      Emily finished. She put on her shoes, opened the door to her room and ran out the front door and jumped into the car as Luke started it and began to back out.

      Did you lock the front door? Luke asked.

      I didn’t have time to lock it, I had to sprint to the car or it would have left without me, Emily said.

      Luke stopped the car, got out and ran to the front door. He turned the doorknob but it was locked. He ran back shaking his head.

      Emily laughed as she said, "Hurry up Luke or we’re going
