      Introduction

      This book is designed for individuals who are interested in beginning level of guitar learning. Considering beginner's goal of learning, we are often aiming low for the guitar at first: that is, we simply wants to give it a try, and would want to learn more after discovering more fun in the learning process.

      Therefore, this book covers possibly less music theory and focuses directly on the guitar playing instead, including fundamental playing and learning on various tempos and reading simple sheet music. After all, if you have decided not to find a guitar teacher, it would be much faster for you to read music when teaching yourself the guitar. You may then, find music to play from the Internet on your own.

      As for reader friends who are too shy to sing, I also introduce some simple performance styles on pure instrumental music. By following such approach, you may play sheet music with a simple two-voices finger style by yourself.

      In addition, to better master the above mentioned three key directions, it is relatively important be familiar with note positions and scales on the guitar. By knowing where the notes are, you would feel free to play music and songs as you wish. You will not forget the music if you happen to forget fret.       " to learn how to memorize note positions in my very special ways and increase your learning efficiency.

      Chapter 1

      Holding The Guitar Correctly, 

      Preparations Before You Start To Play

      Section 1. How To Hold Your Guitar

      Generally speaking, you should hold your guitar this way:

      ▲ Sitting Position

      Place the waist of guitar on the beginning end of your thighs.

      Lift the guitar neck slightly higher and lean the guitar slightly toward our body. The angle between the guitar neck and your stomach is about 30°～45°.

      Extend your right hand to the front of guitar body surface and place your elbow against the 90° angle between the buttocks of the guitar surface and the side surface. The position of your right hand fingers should be located in front of the smaller of the guitar sound hole.

      Your left palm should be facing upward. Your left thumb should be attached to the back of the guitar neck where the rest of the four fingers are placed toward the guitar neck to press the strings. Please try leaving the space between your thumb and the index finger, and palm aways from the guitar neck.

      If no matter how your hold your guitar and you still feel it is not steady and shaky, then you can cross your right leg which you place the guitar, over another leg. Or you may also step your right leg over your left leg in order to reach the steadiness of the guitar. This is a much easier upon your playing.

      ▲ Standing Position 

      Similar to sitting position, you will hold the guitar and place it to the height of your waist. The guitar neck is slightly lifted up, higher than your left elbow and slightly lean forward. It is very important that you can play the guitar comfortably and at ease.

      ▲ Upon Guitar Playing Time 

      ◇ Left Hand

      Use your fingertips to press strings and please be cautious about not letting the strings stuck in between your fingernails.

      Do not press the strings too hard. It is all right as long as no unwanted noses are produced upon playing the guitar.

      Let your fingers curve naturally. It is like they are standing on the fretboard.

      Do not stick out fingers that are not pressing the strings and this is for an instant and convenient use.

      Please try pressing the strings close to the right side, next to the fret (the fret wire direction), but do not press on it.

      When changing fingers to press on different frets, please try your best to extend the muscles between your fingers across the fretboard. Unless the distance between frets are too far, do not let your hand jump around.

      ◇ Right Hand

      When holding a pick

      Because everyone’s fingers are slightly different, one person may hold a pick in a different way from another. In addition, the produced timbre varies due to different ways of holding a pick. For correction, you may detailedly and slightly adjust some areas by yourself after you are familiar with the regular playing methods. Here we introduce you a common way to hold a pick .
