Introduction
A while back I started thinking about transferring (also called migrating) my WordPress websites to another hosting company.
Lately the service from my current host, well, pretty much sucked . . . The load times were getting slower and slower on the front end, accessing the WP admin panel on the back end was taking over a minute or more from the time I logged in to the time the dashboard page loaded, and every now and then I would get some type of 'error' message and a page would not load at all!
The problems were getting worse and worse, and I figured if this was happening to me during the occasional times I logged onto my site, what was happening to my normal traffic . . . to my visitors who tried to come to my sites day in and day out?
So I started looking for a way to quickly and easily transfer my WordPress websites to a new hosting ISP. Over a couple of years I had built about 50 sites and I soon discovered that transferring all of these was going to be an expensive thing to do.
Many hosting companies wanted to charge me around $200 for the work, due to the number of sites that I had. There were a couple of plugins on the market, but those were going to run me over $100 as well. Now, I am not cheap when it comes to my internet marketing work . . . but I also don't like to spend money when I don't have to.
I mean seriously, how difficult could it be to transfer my WP site files to another hosting company? If somebody else could do it, I could do it too . . . So I started looking around.
