Introduction
The orangutan is probably one of the more fascinating apes in existence. Less people know a lot about it compared to animals like the chimpanzee and the gorilla, but they certainly have their own charms.
A red ape with very long arms, the orangutan looks kind of silly. But it has intelligence that surpasses its appearance, and has fascinated scientists and storytellers alike for centuries.

As a writer, professor, and instructional designer, Dr. Rachel Smith uses the principles of design and metaphor to support change management and the development of learning for a wide range of students and clients. Dr. Smith earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from UCLA, where her dissertation focused on designing educational technology applications for the user experience. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from California State University, Fullerton, with minor coursework in Child Development and Linguistics, and a Master of Arts in Administration focusing on Change Management from California State University, Northridge.
