EMBROIDERY
STITCH BY STITCH
EMBROIDERY is a subject in which there is endless variety, but embroidery should eventually become an individual craft, i.e. a craft where the embroidress learns to make up her own stitches, or learns to combine a series of stitches into a new whole, and a craft where colours are combined into a harmonious colour scheme. In the beginning it is sometimes wise to follow other people’s designs and suggested colour schemes, but the aim should be eventually to achieve something that is individual.
All embroidery should from the beginning have a definite purpose and a definite colour scheme—no haphazard work should be done.
CHOICE OF MATERIAL
This is endless in embroidery, ranging from net to the thickest woollen materials. No elaborate form of embroidery should ever be done on cheap material which is not
