CHAPTER ONE
Sarah drifted in and out of consciousness. Each new scene that appeared before her seemed to make less sense than the last. She was aware of a dull ache in her leg, but she doesn’t remember what happened to her. Just about the time, she felt like she was about to remember something, everything faded to black.
Donathan is cradling Sarah in his arms as he tapped into his ma-gem that allowed him to move at incredible speeds. Tears streak his face being pulled off the side of his head by the speed. There’s a terrible knot in his stomach as he fears the worse for Sarah. He hates himself for putting her in danger. He swears to himself that he will not let her die. He will make her better. Then he will never let her get hurt again.
Slicing through the fall night air, the barren tree limbs blur into dark lines in his peripheral as he moved down the city street leading to who knows where. Donathan saw a group of houses off to his right. They were far enough away from the gas station that it could be out of the orcs territory. If they were, he would be able to treat Sarah's wound without having to fend off the orcs that wanted to eat them. He made the right into upper-middle-class suburb tucked away in the rural landscape. Looking over the houses, he decided to take a couple of seconds to pick a house near the back of the subdivision. He spotted a bi-level brick facade mansion-sized house near the back. Deciding that it was much too flashy, he decided the best place to hide Sarah would be in a single level ranch style red brick home four houses down from it.
Donathan tried the knob on the front door. It turned easily in his hand swinging smoothly inside the home. Stepping inside he spotted a couch up against the outside wall. Gently, he lay Sarah on the sofa then pushed it into the dining room away from the large picture window that allowed natural light into the room. Quickly Donathan goes back to the living room to drop the blinds before pulling the curtains.
Crossing the room back to Sarah, Donathan stared in horror at the arrow sticking out of her left thigh. He knew he had to pull it out; he just wasn't sure how close it was to the artery that ran down her left leg. Donathan does notice that there is a large blood stain developing on her jeans. Without any prior experience with arrow wounds, it was hard to tell if it was enough to indicate that the arrow had hit the artery or not. He just knew it looked bad. His gut told him it there wasn’t enough blood to suggest that she was bleeding out. Having a feeling that it was probably okay really didn’t seem to do anything to calm his nerves.
The bathroom! He thinks to himself. People usually keep bandages, gauze, triple antibiotic cream and other things in their bathroom. That was the standard for people in these nice houses right?
In the commotion of fighting for their lives, they had left all of their medical supplies in the now burning gas station. But, if they were lucky there would be supplies in the bathroom of this house.
Is she alright?
Froacious asked from the doorway
Donathan nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard his voice. He had been so lost in helping Sarah that he had completely forgotten that the man even existed. That said, he completely ignored him as he moved to find a bathroom in this place so that he can raid it for all of its vital supplies.
Moving down the hallway to the left of the front door Donathan found a bathroom inside the first door on the right-hand side of the hall. Donathan flung the medicine cabinet door open beginning to rummage through the bottles and boxes that line its shelves. He tossed the things he doesn’t need on the while pocketing the things he does. Managing to find bandages, triple antibiotic cream and some aspirin Donathan felt slightly more hopeful though not satisfied. Opening the linen closet next to the
