About this ebook

The book “Tales with mermaids” is divided into five stories.
“The mermaid’s children” is about a little girl who very much wishes to know the depths of the sea, so she throws herself into the waves, finding the mermaids’ palace, from where she can no longer return to earth.
In “The singer’s wife” a mermaid wants to know earthly life for she is in love with a singer from a fisherman’s village. In return, the boy passes through many challenges to win her heart.
In “God Neptune’s love” the mighty god of the sea falls in love with a mortal from a village. Wanting to attract her attention in order to conquer her heart and take her into the depths with him, he causes many disasters on the ocean, sinking ships and drowning people, but she still would not share his love.
“The three mermaids” describes the life of the ocean nymphs, daughters of the feared god Neptune. By chance, the mermaids arrive aboard a fishing vessel, falling in love with three sailors who love them dearly and wish to have them by their side.
The last story, “Poseidon’s wife”, describes the god’s love for a beautiful mortal woman, who lives in a rich, peaceful and prosperous city. He marries her and together they have five children but she misses her home town and wishes to see it once again, no matter the consequences.

    Prologue

The book Tales with mermaids contains five stories about mithological creatures, half women, half fish, living at the bottom of the ocean, kept there by the God Neptune. They wish to know earthly life, to save sinking ships and the people who drown because of the merciless god of the sea.

Her mother hadn’t always enough time to spend with her daughter and she always advised her not to get into the waves:

’Don’t step into the sea because you can drown and I won’t know anything about you!’

’My darling, a long time ago, a mermaid stole many little girls, taking them to the deep sea because she had no children and she wanted to play with them. The little girls were never seen by their parents. Although the villagers searched for them a lot, it seemed they had drowned for nobody is able to stay below the surface for too long.

’But mother, I can swim very well, nothing will ever happen to me. Besides, that is just a story!’ the little girl with ebony
